Alfred M. Dungan

Alfred Macon Dungan, 93, of Finksburg, Maryland passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at home with his family by his side.


He was born in Marion, Virginia on November 1,1931, to the late Aubrey Leon Dungan and Alma (Woody) Dungan. He was the devoted husband of Rosetta Sue (Deisher) Dungan for 69 years.


Alfred enlisted in the armed forces, the US Army from 1948 to 1951where he served as a Corporal. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal with four bronze stars. After discharge, he went to work for the railroad working for the B&O, the Chessie System, which was acquired by CSX Corporation, where he retired as a Senior Director of Car Utilization and Logistics. Alfred was a member of the B&O Retirees Railroad "RABO" club. He was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Sykesville. Alfred, also known affectionately as Chuck or Al, enjoyed time away from the office crabbing on the Chesapeake, golfing, and entertaining friends and family.


Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Catherine Dungan Jones, Cheryl Dungan Leonardi, M.D. and husband Brian and Sue Ellen Lau and husband Howard "Ross", sister Nancy Hart, grandchildren Jeffrey Ross Lau, Melinda Ashley Dean, Matthew Jacob Lau, Grahm Dungan Jones and Shannon Lindsy Jones and great-grandchildren Audrey, Emma, Austin, Ava, Savannah and Adaline.


He was predeceased by his daughter Melinda Carol Dungan, brothers James W. Dungan and Aubrey Leon Dungan, Jr. and son-in-law Mark Jones.


The family received friends from 11 to 12 PM on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville, MD where a funeral service was held at 12 PM. Interment will be in Eversole Cemetery, New Lebanon, OH on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 11 AM.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National Downs Syndrome Society, The Children's Heart Foundation, or Messiah Lutheran Church.
