Claude Daniel Boone

September 4, 1933 — April 14, 2020

Claude Daniel Boone, son of John and Alice (King) Boone, was born on September 4, 1933, near Rocky Mount, Virginia. He departed this life on April 14, 2020, at his home near New Lebanon, Ohio. He was 86 years, 7 months, and 10 days old. In November of 1954, feeling the call of the Spirit, Claude accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized. He was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church New Conference, Stillwater congregation. He was united in marriage to Carol Louise Bowser on December 24, 1955. They shared 64 years together, desiring to honor God in faithfulness. They received an abundance of grace and enjoyed many blessings through the years. Dad holds a special place in the hearts of all that knew and loved him. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Carol; his children; Steve and Neva Boone, Janelle Bowman, and Rosemary and David Cover; his grandchildren; Nick and Sarah Boone, Steve and Julie Boone, Trent and Krista Fisher, Kevin and Kaitlin Wrightsman, Alex and Amanda Bowman, Levi and Abby Jenkins, Ellie Bowman, Ian and Deidre Bowman, Troy and Marci Flora, Chad and Jessica Meyers, Tyler and Anna Fay, Tyler and Emily Cover, and Preston and Katelyn Cover; and his twenty-six great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Mary Boone, Buren and Karen Boone, Duaine Boone, Betsy Boone, Hazel Boone, and Donna Bowser and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Claude is also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Charlie and Anna Bowser; son-in-law Jerry Bowman; great granddaughter Cambria Cover; brothers and sisters, Anna (Elmer) Divers, John (Gladys), Jessie (Henry Durham) (Lester Sides), Tom (Geneva) Boone, Rachel (Troy) Johnson, Lucy (Clyde) Johnson, James (Duaine), Pauline (Johnny) Brooks, Robert (Bernice), and Clyde; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Earle (Phyllis) Bowser, Margaret (Harold) Brubaker, Lloyd Bowser; and step-father Cephas Boone and his children. Dad was born the tenth of thirteen children in the beautiful hills of rural Virginia. His childhood was filled with country life of working hard, playing in the Pigg River, and attending the one room schoolhouse nearby. At the age of twelve, Dad’s life was deeply impacted by the death of his father. He carried the pain of this loss with him throughout life. His mother remarried Cephas Boone and they relocated to Quinter, Kansas. Life in Western Kansas was very different from Virginia including farming with tractors instead of horses, entering a modern high school, and making new friends. He shared many stories of playing football, ag classes, and wheat farming. After graduation, he studied diesel mechanics in Kansas City. Later, he moved to Ohio where he met and married our mother, the love of his life. Dad and Mom settled on the Bowser family farm and raised their family. Dad enjoyed many interests and occupations through the years such as farming, raising sheep and chickens, selling eggs on routes throughout Dayton, working as an electrician, and, later in life, performing maintenance at the Salem Mall Sears. We remember Dad being the happiest while spending time in his garden, shearing sheep, and fishing in the pond. He took our family on many trips to see our aunts, uncles, and cousins, and to attend family reunions. Dad did not know a stranger and always had a story to tell, making numerous friends along the way. He spent years preaching the Word of God and loved to read the Bible, commentaries, and Abraham Lincoln history books. When the grandchildren came along, he had a way of making each one of them feel special. We are thankful for God’s faithfulness as we consider Dad’s life. God takes our imperfect efforts and, if we allow Him, uses them to His glory. Dad lived with declining health the last several years and as his body was wearing out he needed much care, which mom lovingly provided. In the last several weeks he spoke of his desire to go to his eternal Home, and in God’s perfect timing, this desire was granted. We rejoice knowing he is now in the presence of the Lord. We look forward to that time in the future when we can surround the throne together where we will part no more.
