Connie Sue Coffman

December 24, 1953 — May 18, 2025

Connie Sue Coffman (Hoskins)

Age 71, went home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 18th 2025. She passed away in the very house she and her husband shared for over 40 years in New Lebanon Ohio, surrounded by her loving family.

Connie was born in Dayton Ohio at Good Samaritan hospital on December 24th, 1953 to her late parents, Pearl and Mabel Hoskins. She was the 4th child out of five. Right away, she was cherished by both her mother and father being their only daughter. However; being a girl didn’t offset her stubbornness. She blazed her own trail, and made clear she would set her own path in life, even if her parents would disagree to her life choices. Connie grew up in church and was a God fearing woman until the day she went to go be by his side.

Connie would marry the man that she had met and fell deeply in love with at the tender age of 15, in 1969. Even though family and friends tried to discourage her decision of marriage at such a young age, she wouldn’t let them interfere in her chosen path. Just as quickly as Connie took her vows with Marion Clay Coffman Sr., on September 20th, 1969, she soon became a first time mother to her first born child, and before she knew it, she found herself a mother of 4 by the time she was 24 years of age. Albeit, life wasn’t always easy, and Connie would find herself in the midst of many storms being married to a Vietnam veteran with chronic PTSD, Connie would always proclaim that her children were not only the very essence of her happiness in life, but she found her strength in them during her most turbulent times. They punctuated the very reason of her existence…then came her grandchildren. Her life was at its zenith. This is when she found delight in wearing her newly acquired title of grandma and “mama bear”. With each new addition, Connie would speculate a new beginning and opportunity for her to excel in. She became more refined with each new baby she would hold, and dream of a life free of strife and difficulties for each one.

Connie lived a simple life, and it never occurred to her to want for more. Virtually growing up along side of her eldest children, she was allowed to experience a childhood that she had forsaken to marry the man she had fallen in love with while a young teenager. Connie loved the music of the 80’s and 90’s right along with her sons and daughter and cherished those shared moments of appreciation of their culture. The music, the movies and the fads of her children were not only theirs, but hers as well. Clay, Chad, Shanna and Shaun were not only the creations from the love she shared with her husband, but they were the second chance to experience her own adolescence.

The relationship that Connie had with her mother and father was unique as well. Time spent with her mom was usually at a Walmart. For unexplainable reasons, these trips would act as a segue for her biggest belly laughs with her mom at her side. Moments with her dad were usually coasting through the past in memories that resided in times that seemed a little more carefree and calm. Pearl, her father, would bring her back the steadiness and resilience that she needed during her most difficult times.

When the children grew up, and moved on from home, Connie lived most of her life caring for her husband. The highlights of these last years of her time here on earth were when her children came to visit and most of all when those beautiful grand babies and soon, great grandchildren stopped in. Every interlude ending with an “I love you more” from her is etched in every heart and soul that had ultimately derived from her. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are the epitome of her biggest successes.

Connie leaves behind her husband of 56 years, Marion Clay Coffman Sr., her dear brothers (and best of friends) :Johnny (Linda) Hoskins, Jeff (Debbie) Hoskins, Mike (Gina) Hoskins, Mark Hoskins all of North Carolina.

Her children: Marion Clay Jr. (Carey Ann) of Lewisburg OH, Chad Eric (Anna) of Enterprise AL, Shanna Marie (John) of Brookville OH, and Shaun Anthony (Tracy) of New Lebanon OH. “I had to learn how to fight for myself, and we all know all the truth I could tell. I’ll just say this, I wish you all farewell.” I am set free. All because my God loved me so.
