Damon D. Phillips Jr. passed away April 8, 2019 at his home with his loved ones by his side. He was born May 16, 1948 in Dayton, OH to Damon D. Sr and Edna E. Guinn Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Bobby, Katherine and Christine. On May 24, 1969 he married his high school sweetheart Neva Pierce. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1969. He served three years, most of the time in Germany as a computer programmer. He loved traveling all around Germany and nearby countries. Upon returning to civilian life he went back to work at G.M., first at Frigidaire, then Delco Air, and finally Harrison Radiator. He worked 31.5 years, retiring in 1999. He was later employed at Fidelity Home Health Care, putting in 16 years. On December 6, 1981, the pride and joy of his life, his son Jared was born. He was proud of Jared and loved him more than life itself. In 2006, he was honored by being named New Lebanon Person of the Year. Damon spent 21 years working with New Lebanon Youth Athletics. He dearly loved the game of golf, no one ever had to ask him twice, he was always ready to play. Damon is survived by his wife of 50 years, Neva. His son and daughter-in-law Jared and Jackie. If his wife and son wanted the moon, he would have done his best to give it to them. They were his world and him theirs. His sisters, Linda Fugett and Lynn Birchhill and many dear friends and family members. He has always been involved in his many nieces’ and nephews’ lives, including great and great-great. He loved every one of them and was a hero and positive influence in their lives. Damon fought a very long and heartbreaking war against metastatic Stage IV lung cancer that spread to his bones. He never complained, just hoping for a positive outcome. He has always been a beautiful beam of light to us all. He never met a stranger and tried to find positive things in everything and everyone. He would hope everyone could do the same. Please let the flowers continue to grow from Mother Earth, so in lieu of flowers consider donating to Hospice of Ohio who, in our hours of need throughout this journey, were by our side with love and kindness. We couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful organization and deeply appreciate all of his caregivers! His wife and son would also like to thank those involved in his treatment at Dayton Physicians, they were wonderful. But most of all, to all of our family and friends who have stood beside us with prayers and good wishes, we love all of you! Our hearts will never be the same. He was a true gentle giant. Visitation will be held from 12-2 PM with service to follow at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Rogers Funeral Home in New Lebanon. Interment will follow the service at Trissel Cemetery.
