David Ray Mullins, age 72, passed away at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio on August 23, 2021, after a short battle with brain and lung cancer. David was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on December 22, 1948, to Roy and Frances Mullins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Candy Mullins. David enlisted in the Marine Corp on December 1, 1966. His time was cut short after an injury only a couple of weeks into his training and he received an honorable discharge. A concrete finisher by trade, he was involved in renovations and reconstruction at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in the ‘70’s, and then spent most of his career building swimming pools. Later in life he spent time working alongside his stepbrothers Jim and John Myers as a heat and air technician. He loved to tinker and make things after his retirement. David is survived by one son who was adopted when he was very young, his name is David Dolph of Ohio. David also had numerous brothers and sisters, Sandra Owens, Nancy Pitman, Johnnie Block, and John Dunn Jr. all from Ohio on his mother’s side. He then had Linda McClain, Steve Mullins, Roy Mullins Jr., Richard Mullins, and Melanie Mullins of Tennessee on his father’s side. He is also survived by his Aunt Betty Sue Cobble of Knoxville, Tennessee to whom he spoke with on a weekly basis. She will miss him and their chats. A memorial will be held with Military Honors on September 17, 2021, at 2:30 pm at Dayton National Cemetery. Please meet at Shelter Area B, and arrive no earlier than 2:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider Hospice of Dayton, who had been wonderful to the family in their time of need.
