Delbert "Bert" Puckett, a man whose laughter was as infectious as his spirit, embarked on his final adventure on August 8, 2025, in Clarksville, TN.
Born on April 24, 1954, in Dayton, OH, Bert was a beacon of mischief from the get-go, a trait that stayed with him throughout his 71 years of life.
Bert, a retired Army SFC Veteran, served his country with the same gusto with which he lived his life. It's said that his commanding presence could make even a drill sergeant crack a smile.
Bert found solace in the simple things. Mornings were sacred to him, as he would commune with the birds and squirrels from his back porch sanctuary. He claimed Goldie, his fish, was the best conversationalist, never talking back and always appreciative of his food offerings.
Bert's eclectic taste in music had him grooving to the soulful tunes of Aretha Franklin one minute, rocking out to Jimi Hendrix or tapping his foot to a bluegrass banjo the next.
Halloween was Bert's time to shine. Bert's infectious enthusiasm for the spooky season could make even the most skeptical of trick-or-treaters believe in the magic of All Hallows' Eve.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Puckett and Katherine (McKellar) Puckett, his brother Bob (Delores) Puckett, and Ellen (Puckett) Keifer.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Maranda and Malinda Puckett, his grandson Isaac Iglesias, his siblings Danny Puckett, David Puckett, Bev (Dave) Rhodes, and Martha (Gene) Ullery, many nieces & nephews, extended family and friends.
Bert's absence will be deeply felt by his family.
Delbert "Bert" Puckett's life was a masterclass in laughter, service, and the art of not taking oneself too seriously. While the final curtain has fallen on Bert's earthly performance, the echoes of his laughter will reverberate in the hearts of those who knew him. Bert, here's to you, the man who lived life as if it were the greatest comedy ever written.
The family will receive friends from 12-1pm with Memorial service to begin at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025 at Rogers Funeral Home, 324 W. Main St., New Lebanon, Ohio 45345. After the service we will go in procession to the Dayton National Cemetery, where a graveside service with military honors will take place. www.RogersFuneralHomes.com
