MILLER, Della "Maxene" 82, of Clayton, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Maxene is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Col. Fred; son, Dr. Steve Hines; daughters, Diane (Dave) Spaulding and Jan Knostman; grandchildren, Amber Schmelick, Bret Walters, Misty Spaulding, Chad Midlam, Dr. Dani Knostman, and Thomas Spaulding; great grandchildren, Jonnah, Isabel, and Joey; siblings, Gail (Wilson) Moss, June (Charles) Hendricks, James (Phyllis) Hanna, Gordon (Pam) Hanna, and Judy (Bob) Armstrong; and many more family and friends. Along with many other accomplishments in life, she started the first paramedic program in Ohio, was instrumental in starting the Coronary Care Unit and director of the Ambulatory Care Services at Good Samaritan Hospital, medical advisor to Box 21, and an adjunct professor at Wright State University Medical School. Maxene was a former President of the Dayton chapter of the American Heart Association, honored as one of the Ten Top Women of the Miami Valley in 1981, won the Spirit of Dayton Award, began and was the first director of the Western Ohio EMS, a nurse consultant, and involved with aerospace research. Most of all, Maxene will be remembered as a loving mother and wife. A Memorial Visitation will be held in celebration of Maxene's life on Friday, August 10, 2012 from 4PM to 6PM at ROGERS' FUNERAL HOME, 110 W. Main St., Trotwood. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association- The Miami Valley Chapter, The Laurelwood, 3797 Summit Glen Drive Suite 100, Dayton, OH 45449 or www.alz.org in Maxene's memory.
