Diana (Sue) Engle of Dayton, Ohio–born on July 27, 1941–passed away on April 14, 2026 after a long battle with illness.
She is survived by her husband, William Engle, and her children: Michael Engle, Robert Engle, William Engle Jr., Timothy Engle, and Diane Engle. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Raymond Engle Jr., Joshua Klaas, Sheena Smith, Dustin Engle, Matthew Engle, Jordan Collins, Lea Jeffers, Dillon Engle, William Engle, and many great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Howard, her father, Lozier Howard, and two of her children: Elaine Engle and Raymond Engle Sr.
Sue was part of a big family, which she adored. Though small in stature, she was a nurturing force, a great listener and a stallwort of resilience among her family and friends. She was the matriarch of the family: always willing to give grace and comfort. On the other hand, she didn’t stop to speak her mind when anyone needed a “kick in the rear.” She believed in the core values of kindness, respect, and working hard.
Sue and Bill were married for 69 years. They shared the joys and hard times of any married couple, but their union was forever instilled by a support-system that would challenge any other mutual pairing. She worked hard for many years, providing food cleanliness for the youth of the Center for Adolescent Services (CAS) after running her own house cleaning business for years. She developed many relationships with coworkers and youth at CAS that lasted years. She cared about the kids and got to know them on a personal level. Likewise, she enjoy time with her coworkers: going out to eat, taking quick trips to the dollar book store ,and visiting flea markets with family and friends.
Sue was referred to the family simply as “Mom.” She will be missed so much. It was common for the front door of the Engle house to be open and welcoming to all comers, no matter the time of day nor situation. Her smiling face and embracing nature cannot be overstated. She was a bastion of care and comfort in countless ways.
Take care “Mom” and thank you for being the epitome of love for us all.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 1 PM with funeral to begin at 1 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Rogers Funeral Home in New Lebanon.
