Doris H. Comer

Age 97, of Eaton, and a long-time resident of New Lebanon, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, and was called to be with the Lord. Doris was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 64 years, Edward W. "Ed" Comer; her sister, Barbara Duckro; her brother, Bill Hamilton; her grandson, Heath Comer; and her son-in-law, Ted Halsey.

She is survived by her sister, LaVerna Stiver; her son, Ron (Marcia) Comer; her daughters, Saundra Halsey and Kim Eblin; her grandchildren, Lance (Amanda) Comer, Aaron (Laura) Comer, Joe Eblin, and Brianna (Mitch) Rowlett; as well as seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Doris was deeply committed to her community and the well-being of its youth. She served for 15 years in the kitchens of New Lebanon schools as a cook. A devoted member of Farmersville #155 OES for 74 years. She was also an active member of the New Lebanon Brethren Church. Doris played an essential role in the establishment of the New Lebanon library and the town’s first kindergarten class through her work with the Mother's Study Club (now the PTA). She was also a charter member of the New Lebanon American Legion Auxiliary and a dedicated member of the New Lebanon Fire Department Auxiliary.

Throughout her life, Doris enjoyed various hobbies, including cooking, boating and fishing trips, and tending to her flower beds. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her family and friends, especially spoiling her grandchildren. Doris will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and the love she shared with all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am at Rogers Funeral Home in New Lebanon. Pastor Kyle Wardlaw will officiate. Interment will follow at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Doris' memory.
