Dorothy J. Shank

SHANK, Dorothy J. Age 88 of New Lebanon, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Saturday Oct. 22, 2011 at Miami Valley Hospital. Dorothy was born in Tipp City, Ohio to the late Nicholas J. & Rachel E. (Fagan) Lachey. She graduated in 1941 from Tipp City H.S. and was retired Food Supervisor at New Lebanon Schools. She was a member of Dixie Grange and New Lebanon United Methodist Church. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother who loved her family very much. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Eugene, in 1994; and brothers, Floyd & Ralph Lachey. She is survived by daughters, Catherine (Harold) Miller, and Patricia (Robert) Schommer; grandchildren, Hal (Lindsey) Miller, Tricia (Steve) Fugett, Michael (Karen) Miller, Bradley (Dr. Lyndsey) Miller, Megan (Josh) Kummer, and Rob (Traci) Schommer; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Bowers; sister-in-law, Dortha Lachey; brother-in-law, Richard Shank, & many special nieces and nephews. Dorothy will be remembered for her love of all sports, especially when her grandchildren and their friends were participating. A special thanks to the emergency doctors, nurses, and chaplain at Miami Valley Hospital, the New Lebanon Rescue, and Dr. Bingham. Private services will be held by the family at Rogers' Funeral Home, New Lebanon with Pastor Larry Lindstrom officiating. Dorothy loved reading and had read over 70 books this year, so in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Dixie Middle School Library or the American Heart Assoc. in her memory.
