VAN SCHAIK, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” (Rafferty) Age 85, of Villa Hills, Kentucky, formerly of Trotwood, Ohio, passed away Sunday, October 15, 2017. She was born December 2, 1931 in Dayton, Ohio to Henry J. and Gertrude H. (Lucas) Rafferty. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Henry J. and Gertrude H. (Lucas) Rafferty; son, Jeffrey J. Van Schaik; sister, Rita H. Myers; and sister, Kathleen J. Cooper-Harkless. She is survived by her husband, George; 2 daughters, Christina (husband, David) Dzaran, and Julie (husband, Brady) Coogan; 2 grandchildren, Christopher Dzaran and Kathleen Dzaran; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Betty graduated from Parker Cooperative High School in Dayton, Class of 1949. On September 26, 1953 she married her husband George. She worked at the Better Business Bureau in Dayton and alongside her husband at George P. Van Schaik Insurance Agency in Trotwood. Betty was a long-time resident of Trotwood and a member of Precious Blood Parish for 60 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She blessed her family with love, guidance, kindness and all of her many talents and skills. She loved to garden, cook, bake, sew, entertain and spend time with her family. She served at Precious Blood in the altar linen ministry, working the church festivals, providing dinners for those in need and in many other ministries over the years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. If desired, donations can be made in Betty's memory to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org There will be a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, October 28 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Precious Blood Catholic Church, 4961 Salem Avenue, Dayton 45416 with a Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00 AM.
