Fred Virgil Holl

HOLL, Fred Virgil, of Tipp City, passed away Wednesday February 22, 2017 at the age of 90. Fred was born on November 10, 1926 to Carl "Bun" Holl and Anna Catherine (Krieg) Holl. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1945. Fred was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Marine Corp from February 1945 to August 1946. He retired from Navistar in 1991 after 31 years of service. Fred was preceded in death by his wife Berneda (Copp) Holl; brothers Carl, William and Phillip Holl; sisters Marie (Holl) Drum, Thelma (Holl) Montgomery and Betty-Lou (Holl) Davis. He leaves with wonderful memories his daughter Holly Ann Holl; sister-in-law Juanita Copp; sister Marjorie "Sue" Zampatti; nieces and nephews David (Bonita) Holl, Deborah (Jim) Peairs, Jana Holl, Susan (Mike) Graham, David Blackmore, Barry Blackmore, Kathey (David) White, Mark Davis, Cliff (Janice) Davis and Ric (Susie) Zampatti. At his core, Fred was an extremely tough, yet calm and peaceful man who enjoyed smoking cigars and reminiscing with family and friends over stories of his time in the Marines and his many athletic pursuits. He enjoyed running, handball, weight-lifting and was an avid bicyclist for many years. The family expresses much gratitude to the staff at Miami Valley Hospital trauma unit and Upper Valley Medical Center, along with their inpatient Hospice of Miami County unit, who provided exceptional care and comfort to Fred in his final days. Visitation will be held from 10 AM-12 PM with funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Rogers Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Trotwood, Ohio 45426. Interment with military honors will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of Miami County and/or a charity of your choice.
