He loved working in the yard, mowing often, driving his bobcat, moving dirt with the backhoe, landscaping, and building a waterfall at his pond.
George E. Philpot, known to many as Shorty, passed away on October 7, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on September 11, 1943, in Dayton, Ohio.
George was a graduate of Roth High School, Class of 1962. He later built a long career at General Motors, where he worked as a job setter before retiring in 1993. During his years there, he also served as a committeeman and held office in the union for a time.
He enjoyed life in ways that brought energy and fun to those around him. George loved old classic vehicles and going to car shows. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and driving fast on country roads. He loved working in the yard, mowing often, driving his bobcat, moving dirt with the backhoe, landscaping, and building a waterfall at his pond. He also moved snow for his family and neighbors and was always ready to help if he could.
Above all, George was proudest of his family. He was dedicated to his wife, children, and grandchildren, and he loved spending time with them. He enjoyed doing fun activities and going to ball games with his children and grandchildren, and he even coached for a few years. He was always the fun parent and made home a place of activity and laughter. He loved waking the kids early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons, teaching them plumbing, remodeling, and repairs around the house, and finding fun things to do together, including riding motorcycles, go-carts, fishing, swimming in the pond and pool, and learning to drive an old car out in the field. He especially loved playing with his newest great granddaughter Ryen and wanted to live to see his newest great grandson, Cooper, who is expected this month. He loved telling stories about when he was young to family and friends.
