BLACK, Hazel Irene (Miller),94 a longtime resident of Madison Twp., died Saturday, October 13, 2012,at Friendship Village, Trotwood, Ohio. Born December 4, 1917 to W.H. & Texie Miller in Hans Creek, WV, Hazel grew up in Beckley, WV where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class at age 16 and began a 30+ year teaching career at the age of 18. Along with her husband and 2 sons, Hazel settled in Trotwood in 1953. She was a longtime active member of the Trotwood United Church of Christ. Mrs. Black graduated Suma Cum Laude from Concord College, and received a Masters in Education Curriculum and Administration from Miami University of Ohio. She taught many years for both Trotwood Madison and City of Dayton school districts. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband James, and Granddaughter Kathleen. She is survived by her sons, James R. Black Jr. (Marie) of Hoschton, Ga and Richard A. Black (Natalie) of Vandalia, Grandson Stephen Black (Michelle) of Flowery Branch, Ga and Granddaughter Becky Black of Vandalia, Ohio, and 2 Great Grandchildren. Services will be held at Rogers Funeral Home in Trotwood at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday,October 16 with viewing an hour beforehand.
