Hazel Marie Daugherty

DAUGHERTY, Hazel Marie (Ruess) Age 87 of Trotwood, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2011. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles, two sons, John and David, her parents, Otto and Gladys Ruess (Mortimer), and her brothers, Otto, Jr., Everett, and, Allen. Hazel is survived by six children: Kathleen, Searl and wife Annie, Mary (Bowman) and husband Dan, Tom and wife Camille, Jeanne, Carl and wife Lorka, and Michelle (Matheson), the wife of departed son, David. Hazel had nine grandchildren: Bree (and husband Eric), Brent, Alicia, Patrick, Gabrielle, Melinda, Marie, John, and Sophia. Born December 22, 1923, on the family farm in Huron County, Ohio, Hazel lived the life of a "farm girl" until graduating high school when she moved to Cleveland to attend business school. She worked as a secretary until settling down to marry and raise a family. Hazel and her family moved to Trotwood in 1965 and became active members of the community and Precious Blood Church where they attended mass for many decades. Blessed with a fulfilling life including numerous faithful friends, Hazel derived the greatest joy from her family until her dying day. The family would like to thank the two women who were Hazel's primary caregivers during her final years, loving daughter Jeanne, and her Comfort Keeper, Brenda Masters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Precious Blood Church on Friday, October 7, 2011, at 11:00 AM. Viewings will be at Precious Blood Church on Thursday, October 6, 2011, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and the morning of the funeral, October 7, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
