On January 2, 2021, Hazel L. Shope, 83, of New Lebanon, was called home to be with the Lord and her husband of 56 years, Harold Vincent Shope, who passed 10 years earlier. Born on March 3, 1937 to her parents, Willard and Audrey Richmond, Hazel dedicated her life to being a loving (but no-nonsense) mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a devoted wife, sister and aunt, and a life-long friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Vincent Shope; son Gary Shope; three sisters Donnie Phelps, Tess Houston and Gertie Payton; four brothers, Hershel Cook, Harley Richmond, Jim Richmond and Elvie Richmond; and granddaughter Amy Erica Wilson. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Deb (Ron) Wilson, Ronnie (Carla) Shope, Anthony (Ella) Shope and Steve (Shelley) Shope; 11 grandchildren Sean (Lindsay) Wilson, Kevin Shope, Tiffany Shope, Tracy (Ben) Shope-Cobb, Missy Shope, Angie (Matt) Robinson, Amanda Shope, Joshua Shope, Matthew (Allison) Shope, Jacob Shope and Shelby Shope; 12 great-grandchildren Kyla Wilson, Lincoln Wilson, Lily Wilson, Vanessa Shope, Haley Shope, Dylan Shope, McKenna Cobb, Jared Cobb, Ashlyn Cobb, Max Robinson, Evie Robinson and Ava Shope; sisters Norma Jean Helton and Jessie Mae Pennington; brother-in-law David Shope, and many nieces and nephews. Hazel had a competitive spirit and was a woman ahead of her time, from joining her first baseball team in 3rd grade to operating a forklift for over 25 years at Plastic Trim. She loved all sports and was a diehard Cincinnati Reds fan. "Mamaw" Hazel will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who will remember her for her infectious laugh, love of bingo and game shows, unbeatable horseshoe skills, and knack for telling stories to her grandkids and great-grandkids. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm with the funeral services immediately following at Plainview Open Bible Church (Harvest Revival Center), 1488 Johnsville-Brookville Rd, Brookville, OH 45309, officiated by Pastor Joshua Grimes. Interment (immediate family only) will be on January 8 at Trissel Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed online at www.RogersFuneralHomes.com.
