HANSHEW, Howard L., Jr. Age 92, of New Lebanon, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016. He was born February 22, 1923, to the late Howard L. Hanshew, Sr., and Margaret Hanshew in Montgomery County. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife of 72 years, Adeleen, and brother, William. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara (Robert) Gilbert; son, David (Marceil) Hanshew; daughter, Rebecca Jo Hanshew; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends. Howard was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Brookville, Ohio, for 50 years and was also an active Shriner as a member of the Bagpiper Unit. Howard enjoyed playing the bagpipes for the Shrine, but he also played for many special ceremonies on numerous occasions. In addition, he enjoyed teaching bagpipes to new Shrine students. Howard was a World War II veteran, having served his country in the Navy in the Pacific. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 762 in New Lebanon. Since Howard has joined Adeleen in heaven, a memorial visitation and service for both will be held Friday, January 29, at the Rogers’ Funeral Home in New Lebanon. Visitation with the family will be held from 11:30 to 1:00 with interment at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens following. A service will be held at the mausoleum.
