Irene Weaver, a cherished homemaker, dedicated farmer, and beloved matriarch, peacefully departed this life on May 10, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, having gone home to be with the Lord. Born on October 12, 1920, in Miami Township, Ohio, she graced this world for an extraordinary 105 years, living a life marked by unwavering devotion, resilience, and love.
Irene was a cornerstone of her community and family, a faithful member of St. John's United Church of Christ where she generously lent her time to assist in the nursery school—nurturing young lives with the same care and attention she bestowed upon her own family. Her days were filled with purposeful labor on the farm alongside her husband, Fred Weaver, whose companionship she tenderly honored until his passing in 2005. She took immense pride in driving the grain truck during harvests—a testament to her steadfast spirit and commitment to their shared livelihood.
A woman of remarkable vigor, Irene continued to live independently until the remarkable age of 103. Even beyond that, she embodied a spirit of service and compassion. She even volunteered to build a home through Habitat for Humanity well into her nineties.
Her passions were varied and rich: gardening offered her solace and beauty; reading opened worlds of imagination; swimming and ice skating brought joy and vitality—all activities she cherished deeply. Yet, above all, it was her family who held the greatest place in her heart. Irene was who she was due to her faith in Jesus. She lived for Jesus which was demonstrated in her life by her love and generosity for others. Irene was a wonderful mother and grandmother, whose love and guidance nurtured generations.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Darlene O'Brien, Donald Weaver, John Weaver and his wife Janis, and Karen Seim and her husband Roy. Her extended family includes her brother Ernie and sisters Millie Gentry and Jean Smith, as well as twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her legacy of warmth and strength. A host of other beloved family members and friends also hold her memory dear.
Irene was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Fred Weaver; her parents, Ohmer and Ada (Anspach) Barnhart; siblings Lester and Carl Barnhart, and LaVeda Morrison; her son-in-law Richard O'Brien; and daughter-in-law Mary Ann Weaver.
