John A. Matteucci

April 11, 1949 — April 24, 2025

John A. Matteucci

Age 76 of Lanier Township, Ohio passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025. John grew up in Brookville, Ohio and graduated in 1967. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to communications in Turkey and Japan from 1968-1972. When he returned to the states he was determined to pursue his education while working nights for a security company. He put himself through college and graduated from the University of Dayton in 1976, majoring in Business and Accounting. John started his teaching career in 1977 in New Lebanon, Dixie High School. He also enhanced his career by receiving his Master’s Degree in 1982 as well as graduating form the Police Academy. John was awarded the “Teacher of the Year” in 1995 and was “Reserve Deputy of the Year” in 1999.

John’s desire to become a Park Ranger was accomplished in 2000 when he joined the Five Rivers Metro Parks as a part-time deputy. Retiring from teaching in 2006, he worked full time on the Mounted Patrol. His Ranger career was interrupted in 2010 when he received his first diagnosis of Hoskins Lymphoma. John’s determination kept him in recession for 15 years as he returned to the Ranger position and completed 17 years of service. In John’s free time, he enjoyed volunteering, building cars and airplanes, and created a small trophy business and bought Cencraft awards, which he enjoyed until his death. John also joined the Mason’s in 1987 with the Farmersville Lodge as a Chaplain and became a member of the Parade Escort a year later. He was a true Harley rider for this unit. In 2001, John was the Shriner of the Year. His list of achievements enhanced his reputation as a servant of the community. John was also a faithful member of Antioch United Methodist Church, which is also where he met his wife, Mary. In recent years, Mary and John as well, became members of the Eaton First Church of God.

John would consider his greatest achievement his faith in God and friends like you. John never desired any recognition, only his affirmation of faith and serving others.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Matteucci in 2015. John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Matteucci; sister, Dina Matteucci; and 2 brothers, Charles and Stanley Clark; 2 nieces, Rachel Richardson and Timyra Wilson. John is also leaving behind his faithful dog, Spanky, who is grieving for him.
