John Joseph McGarvey

Age 64, of West Alexandria, Ohio passed away on May 5th, 2025. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 21, 1960 to his father, Jerome McGarvey and his mother, Eileen McGarvey, who has preceded him in death

John is survived by his wife, Rebecca McGarvey; father, Jerome McGarvey; sister & brother-in-law, Colleen (Ed) Gossett; brother & sister-in-law, Mike (Missy) McGarvey; sister & brother-in-law, Theresa (Steve) Cottrell; daughter & son-in-law, Kaitlyn (Adam) Kohlman; son, Tyler McGarvey; son & daughter-in-law, Alex (Laura) McGarvey; son, Eric McGarvey; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

John honorably served for 4 years in the United States Air Force and was a proud Veteran. After earning a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University he worked in the finance and construction industries and was a supervisor for DP&L. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and the great outdoors. He also loved the beach and was an avid swimmer and snorkeler.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, May 21st, 2025 at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 W. Third St., Dayton, Ohio 45428. Please meet at the cemetery no earlier than 1:45pm and follow the signs to "Assembly Area B", we will form a line of cars and be directed to the service area at 2:00pm.
