Laura Aiken

February 4, 1925 — January 2, 2015

AIKEN, Laura age 89 of Dayton, Ohio passed away January 2, 2015. She was born in Jackson, Kentucky to parents Milo and Meliabell Miller. On May 1,1945 she married Burley Aiken and they moved to Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Burley, her father and mother, Milo and Meliabell, Miller, her sisters Lois Hyatt, Pherbia Hudson, Flora Fox, and Dicie Lewis. She is survived by her sons Michael (Dianne) Aiken, Gary (Gail) Aiken, granddaughters Melissa Fontaine, Kelly Chasteen, Nikki Dice, and Jodi Seeley. She also enjoyed her great grandchildren Gillian, Michael, Kailyn, Zach, Samantha, Ben, Brady, Jacob, and Lucas. She is also survived by several half- brothers and sisters. During World War II Laura was a Rosie the Riveter and worked on planes. She met Burley who threw a riveter at her to get his attention. Not much later he made her his bride. In Dayton she retired from Angel Manufacturing and stayed home to take care of Burley until his death. She was also always taking care of other family members. Laura could make any flower or plant grow, cook the best dinners, and manage her own business selling her vegetables. She was a gifted seamstress, making several quilts by hand, and crocheting and sewing many items. Her knowledge of the Bible was inspiring as was the way she lived her Christian life. In her spare time she enjoyed her many trips out west and to Hawaii. In her spare time she attended many soccer and baseball games and school functions. She was the best mom, mother-in-law, grandma, and great grandma, and a friend to many others. Special thanks goes to Don and Sharon Fox and Autumn Brewer for taking such good care of her. The staff at Kettering Hospital – doctors, nurses and others are also to be commended. Visitation will be at Rogers Funeral Home, 324 West Main St. Lebanon, Ohio, on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 6:-8:00 pm. Funeral will be on Friday, 10:00 am at Rogers. Burial will follow.
