McNEES, Leo Age 89, of Trotwood, passed away Friday December 2, 2016. Leo was born January 1, 1927 in Cynthiana, KY to Lemuel and Ida (Berry) McNees. He was the sixth of ten children. Leo was preceded in death by both parents and his siblings, Samuel (KIA WWII), Bill (KIA WWII), Virgie (Arde), LB, Mac, Bobby, Pauline (Cohagen), and Helen (Baldridge). Leo is survived by his wife, Rowena (Applegate); their two sons, Leo and Samuel; and his sister, Ida Mae (Bradley Amos). Leo loved fast-pitch softball, bowling, nature, and his family. Despite his small stature, Leo excelled as a pitcher and a second baseman. Leo was good enough to be inducted into the Dayton Chapter of the Fast-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame. Leo would take up bowling as a way to keep his arm in shape during the winter. He was very proud of the “300” game that he bowled. Leo would continue to bowl until a few months before his death from cancer of the pancreas. Leo loved to see flower gardens and the changing colors of the trees. He especially loved seeing deer out in the fields. Leo met his future wife, Rowena Applegate, at McCall Corp. in west Dayton. He worked there for 37 years until it closed. Leo and Rowena were married for 67 years and had two sons; Leo Edward and Samuel James. They will miss their husband and father very much. Visitation will be Friday December 9 from 11AM to 1PM at ROGERS’ FUNERAL HOME, Trotwood with the funeral service to begin at 1PM. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Trotwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, 45420.
