Lois "Annie" Leonard, of Farmersville, Ohio was born on March 1, 1951, in Pine Knot, Kentucky. She peacefully passed away in the comfort of her home on May 8th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Annie’s life was a tapestry woven with love, family, and a spirit of generosity that extended beyond her immediate circle. Sharing a loving marriage of 59 years with her husband, Jerry Leonard, Annie and Jerry's bond was unwavering, marked by a life rich with travel and shared adventures. Together, they started a family by bringing their son Terry and daughter Kelly into the world. They nurtured this family that has now blossomed into more than 20 grandchildren and a beloved lineage that includes great-grandchildren who adored their grandmother’s warm hospitality. There are also numerous cousins who share too many lifetime memories to count, and many deeply beloved nieces and nephews.
Family memories of Annie are vivid and heartwarming. Grandchildren recall joyful sleepovers in their grandparents’ home, cozy under quilts in the most comfortable beds and treated to big bowls of ice cream. Days in the garden picking vegetables, snapping green beans, and mowing the lawn were filled with her laughter and loving care. Birthdays were special occasions marked by Annie’s enthusiastic phone calls, singing every word of “Happy Birthday," and sending confetti-filled cards, creating treasured moments for her loved ones. Her homemade biscuits and gravy remain a symbol of her nurturing nature - no one ever left her table hungry.
Annie devoted much of her life to the New Lebanon City Schools, where she was a beloved school bus driver for 27 years. During her time there she touched the lives of countless students with her deep affection and kindness. She will be remembered fondly for the enduring friendships she cultivated and her ever-present Speedway Cappuccino that accompanied her on her daily routes.
Annie’s interests were as diverse as her talents. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her beautiful flowers, cooking for the family, and spending precious time with her sister Doris, and best friend Rita. Her eagerness to learn was evident in the many classes she took, mastering skills from ceramic doll-making and cake decorating to dog grooming. She also dedicated years to supporting the entrepreneurial ventures of her late parents, Floyd and Elsie Smith, particularly their handcrafted live Christmas wreath business, flower shop, and produce stand.
She is survived by her devoted husband Jerry Leonard; sister Doris; brother Billy and his wife Gail; children Terry (Lori) and Kelly (Rick); sisters-in-law Shirley Williams and Judy Leonard; brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Carol Leonard; grandchildren Brandy (David), Justin, Chelsea (Matt), Heather, Ryan (Kacey), Paige (Colt), Scottie, Jacob (Brianna), Kayla, Autumn (Max), Caleb (Camryn), and Halee (Noah); and great-grandchildren Justin Jr., Corbin, Carter, Laya, Tucker, Quentin, Maelynn, Jonah, Aiden, Wilder, Nathaniel, and Makena. Annie had many meaningful, lifetime friendships with Bob and Darlene Bennett; DeeDee Kauffman, Tara Myers, Lori Adams, Jess Bates and Kathy Johns. Additionally, her beloved Hospice Nurse Angela and her amazing transplant team of 6 years at OSU.
Annie was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Elsie Smith, her baby brother, mother and father-in-law Joe and Lula Leonard, and the many siblings she gained through marriage; Gordon and Edna Leonard, Delmer and Lois Leonard, Billy and Kimi Leonard, Mildred and Leonard Ashley, Lawrence and Shirley Leonard, Don and Goldie Leonard, Jim Williams, Dale Leonard, and great-grandson Maverick.
