PHIPPS, Martin Edwin Age 52 of Brookville, born in Seattle, WA on July 30, 1968 passed away on May 7th 2021 in Preble Co, Ohio. Martin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Lila Skarsvog of Seattle WA and adopted grandparents Harold and Norma Jean Phipps of Piqua OH; and brother, Aaron Phipps of Bloomfield KY. Martin is survived by his parents Timothy and Judith Phipps, wife, Rachel Phipps; 3 daughters, Cindy Black, Braelyn Phipps, and Brogan Phipps; son, Hunter Phipps; step-children, Reed and Jonah Watson; siblings, Shelli Moelhman, Nathaniel (Stephany) Phipps, Timothy Benjamin (Carina) Phipps, and Adam Phipps; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Upon graduating from high school Martin moved back to Seattle to start a career as a commercial fisherman, as his maternal grandfather did before him. Martin fished multiple seasons in the Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean during the late 1980s and through the 1990s. Martin’s love for marine life later lead to his career as a licensed liquid chemical tanker man, working the river systems of the Ohio, Mississippi Rivers for over 16 years. Martin joined the Army National Guard at age 19, serving for a total of 31 years prior to retiring as a First Sergeant on January 31, 2021. Martin obtained his bachelor’s degree is Operations Management, followed by a master’s degree in Project Management. Martin enjoyed being outdoors and helping family, neighbors and friends with various projects. Martin will be missed by all who knew him. A Memorial visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm EDT on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Rogers Funeral Home in New Lebanon, OH.
