SIGMON, Mearl L. (Smith) Age 98, of Trotwood, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Mearl was born December 30, 1914 in Madison Township to the late Orville and Laura (Lentz) Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 41 years, William V. Sigmon; daughter, Nancy J. Gray; and siblings, Lois Riegel, Frederick Smith, Betty Simmons, and Dona Lonsert. Mearl is survived by her daughter, Ann O'Diam; grandchildren, Michael O'Diam, Jennifer (Tom) Stokes, Shannon (Brian) Nelson, and Erin O'Diam; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many more family and friends. After graduating from Fairview High School, Mearl became involved with many organizations, including the Trotwood Women's Club, Ohio Buckeye Leadership, Dayton Council on World Affairs, and was a member and deacon at Trotwood Church of the Brethren. She started the Canterbury Garden Club, loved storytelling, and was named "Betsy Trotwood" in 1990. For her 75th birthday, her family created the Mearl Sigmon Lepidoptera Library, which is now at the Wegerzyn Garden's MetroPark, due to her love of butterflies. A Memorial Service will take place at 2PM on Sunday, October 6 at Trotwood Church of the Brethren, 208 E Main Street, 45426, with Pastor Paula Bowser officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
