Michael O. Phillips (Doc) passed away the morning of August 23, 2017, at the age of 89, surrounded by family in Brookville, Ohio. He was born in Marion, Ohio to Francis and Edna (Throckmorton) Phillips. He met his wife of 63 years, Charlayne (Huggins) Phillips, at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio, in 1951. In order to pay for his schooling, Michael served in the Navy, aboard the USS Tarawa from July 1946 to July 1949. Upon receiving his medical license from the Ohio State University in 1958, and completing an internship at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, he joined a family practice in New Lebanon, Ohio, where he became lovingly known by patients and neighbors as “Doc Phillips.” In retirement, he enjoyed music, golfing, vacationing with family, and serving the community as a Freemason and Antioch Shriner. He is preceded in death by his sister Ellen, brother Francis, and youngest son, Todd. He is survived by his wife, Charlayne, and two sons, Kent and Scott. He was loved by his five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many extended family members and friends. A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Dayton on Saturday, September 16th at 10:00 am, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Antioch Shrine Center.
