Phyllis Jean (McPherson) Gabbard, a cherished soul whose life was a testament to her unwavering faith and boundless love, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 3, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on April 22, 1947, in Dayton, Ohio, Phyllis was a beacon of light to all who knew her, and her departure from this earth in Eaton, Ohio, leaves a legacy of joy and service.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Raymond C Gabbard, Sr, her parents Harlon and Ester McPherson, her brother Wesley McPherson, brother-in-law John Lock, her father and mother-in-law James E and Mary Gabbard, brothers and sisters-in-law James D (Maxine) Gabbard, Marcella (Willard) Watkins, Louis (Lois) Gabbard, Betty (Travis) Coe.
Phyllis is survived by her son Ray Gabbard (Bill Kopczynski), daughter Wendi (Luke) Gibson and their granddaughter Emily Gibson as well as numerous family members.
Phyllis's professional journey was marked by dedication and excellence. She served as the secretary and Auto CAD operator in the Archbold Engineer Department, where, for 23 years, she was the cornerstone of administrative operations until her retirement in 2013. Phyllis's work ethic and kind-hearted nature made her not just an employee but a beloved member of her work community.
A devout Christian, Phyllis's faith was the compass by which she navigated her life. She was actively involved in her church, where her gentle spirit and love for God's word flourished. Phyllis dedicated countless hours to the children's church at Phillipsburg Missionary Church, Potsdam Missionary, and, from 1990 until recently, Pettisville Missionary Church. She was a guiding light for many, coaching bible quiz teams and imparting the wisdom of the scriptures with grace and humility.
Phyllis's interests painted the picture of a life rich with simple pleasures. An avid reader, she found solace and adventure within the pages of countless books, often preferring the company of a good novel over the allure of a fishing rod during family camping trips. Her love for antique glass was more than a hobby; it was a passion that connected her to the beauty and history of past generations. Phyllis's collection was a vibrant tapestry of stories and memories, each piece a cherished conversation starter during gatherings by the lake.
To know Phyllis was to experience the warmth of her kindness and the depth of her compassion. Her life was not measured by the number of breaths she took but by the moments she created that took our breath away. She approached each day with a heart full of gratitude and a spirit willing to serve, embodying the love of Christ in every action and every word.
As we bid farewell to Phyllis Jean (McPherson) Gabbard, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a soul eternally at peace. Her legacy of love, faith, and service continues to shine brightly, guiding us through the sorrow of her absence. We rejoice in the knowledge that she now rests in the eternal embrace of her Heavenly Father, where she will dwell in joy forevermore.
