Robert D. Lewis, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather from New Lebanon, OH, passed away at the age of 71 on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Lewis and Opal C. Lewis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Debby Lewis; his children, Jennifer (Jeff) Knoth, Christina Graham, and Shaun (Jacki) Lewis; his grandchildren, Samantha & Nicholas Knoth, Isaac & Jude Lewis; and his sisters, Linda Starnes and Charlotte Clark.
Rob was born in Dayton, Ohio, and moved to New Lebanon in the 1960s. It was there he found his roots, made lifelong friends, and graduated as part of the proud Class of ’72 from Dixie High School. He carried the values of that small-town upbringing throughout the rest of his life.
After graduating, Rob spent much of his life behind the wheel as a truck driver, a job that took him across the country and gave him a chance to see the world while providing for his family. Whether it was a long haul or a local run, he enjoyed the work and the independence it offered, but could never wait to come home and see his family.
He loved classic cars—especially his 1981 Corvette. The garage was his second home—a place where he could tinker, fix, and find peace in the hum of his air compressor and the smell of motor oil. He had a natural love of and always found satisfaction in fixing things with his hands.
In quieter moments, Rob enjoyed old TV shows, movies, and westerns. He also never passed up the chance to chat with neighbors at the backyard fence. He had a way of making people feel welcome and was a friend to everyone he met.
But above all else, Rob was a family man. He was a devoted father and a wonderful grandpa who gave everything he could to the people he loved. He sacrificed without complaint and worked hard so his family never went without. His presence brought comfort, and his love was constant.
A funeral service will be held at Rogers Funeral Home in New Lebanon, Ohio on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, with visiting hours from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a service and a procession to Preble Memorial Gardens. All who knew Rob or wish to say goodbye are welcome to attend.
