William D. “Dan” Owen, age 85 of Lewisburg, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at New Lebanon Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 5, 1941, in New Albany, Indiana, the son of the late John B. & Dorothy L. (Williamson) Owen.
Dan honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a former employee of Dayton Malleable Iron and was a retired Electrician for General Motors with over 30 years of service; during his dedicated service at GM Dan attended classes on how to use the laser equipment at GM and became a Laser Technician. He was a classic car aficionado and participated in the Concours d’ Elegance at Carillion Historical Park, along with multiple other local and out of town car shows over the years. Dan was a baseball coach for his sons and took his children to their favorite concerts. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his 3 brothers John, Jim and Joe Owen, his 2 sisters Janet Lively and Dorothy Peters, and his 2 fur babies “Meggie” and “Missy”.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janet (Bartocci) Owen, his children Daniel J. “Danny” Owen, David A. Owen, and Maria D. Taylor and husband Bill, his brother Mike Owen and wife Lynn, his 4 sisters Mary Widener, Sue Kincaid, Deborah Joerendt, and Frances Ehlers, 10 grandchildren Talitha Owen, Alicia Kleismet, Elizabeth Owen (Will), Bobby Owen, Sara Canan (Nick), Amber Owen, Joseph “Joey” Owen, Heather Owen, Miranda Taylor and Cody Taylor, his 3 sisters-in-law Elvyra Owen, Rose Marie Jackson and Karen Poe, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2026, at Rogers Funeral Homes in New Lebanon, with Rev. Dr. Joel Getts officiating. Burial will follow at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Preble County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. (1 hour prior to service) on Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Preble County or to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton in memory of Mr. William D. “Dan” Owen.
