Woodrow W. "Woody" Denlinger

DENLINGER, Woodrow "Woody" W. Jr. Age 70, of New Lebanon, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Hospice of Dayton after a 3 year battle with heart problems and cancer. Woody was born October 11, 1941 in Dayton, and was a 1959 Graduate of Trotwood High School. He served our country in the U.S. Navy for 3 years, beginning July 2, 1959, stationed at the Naval Air Material Center in Philadelphia, PA as an airplane mechanic. On July 1, 1962, he received an Honorable Discharge with a Good Conduct Medal. Woody then went on to serve as a professional firefighter with the Dayton Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant after 27 years of service on April 1, 1990. In December of 1991, he became the Equipment Manager for the Dayton Bombers hockey team until May of 1997. He was a former member of the Trotwood Masonic Lodge #755, F&AM, the Director of Staff of Antioch Shrine Temple, Dayton, and member of the New Lebanon American Legion Post #0762. Woody is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lynette S. (Unger); three step-sons, Michael L. Morgan of San Francisco, CA, Mark R. Morgan and wife Vicky of Franklin, TN, and David P. Morgan, Sr. of Dayton; daughter, Alissa Lynn (Denlinger) Woosley and husband Tommy of New Lebanon; seven grandchildren, David P. Morgan, Jr. of New Lebanon, Madeline and Henry Morgan of Franklin, TN, Candace and Cassandra Smith and Thomas and Troy Woosley of New Lebanon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lane and Frances Unger of Wilmington, Lisa and Roger Lutz of Lewisburg, and Jon and Tami Unger of Brookville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woody Sr. and Maxine Denlinger; all three sisters, Beverly and husband Buck Filbrun, Judy Minnick, and Betty Gaver; brother-in-law, Larry Lee Unger; and mother and father-in-law, Betty and Emerson Unger. The family will receive friends from 6PM to 8PM on Thursday, September 6 at ROGERS' FUNERAL HOME, 324 W. Main St., New Lebanon. The Funeral Service will be Friday, September 7 at 10AM at the funeral home with Pastor Bobbie Predmore, officiating. Burial will be at Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria with the Preble County Honor Guard and the U.S. Navy providing military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the New Lebanon Fire Department, 115 S. Clayton Road, New Lebanon, OH 45345.
